Provender House welcomed its new residents, Aberdeen Marine Surveyors, in November. Providing marine bulk transfer cargo surveying and vessel audit services, Aberdeen Marine Surveyors (AMS) is owned and operated by Neil Carr and Gary Bruce, who have over forty years marine experience between them, and a lean, efficient business model that they believe is just right for the current market.
The company was established in 2012, but it was in 2016 that Neil and Gary decided the time was right for the business to become their full-time focus. As word got out about this new provider of marine safety, quality and quantity assurance services, the volume of work increased, and Neil and Gary realised that in order to ensure that AMS Ltd personnel are always available to respond to customer requirements, they would need to expand. They have brought together a team of experienced consultant surveyors, and to ensure the expanding business continues to be quality focused, they are also in the process of gaining external certification to the new ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems standard.
The move to the firm’s new premises in Provender House on Waterloo Quay was the next natural step in expansion, and demonstrates AMS’ confidence in the quality of their service and the positive response of their customers to a new provider.
Neil and Gary are very operationally involved in the business, spending as much time as they can out on the quayside with their customers ensuring AMS’ focus on quality and customer satisfaction is maintained on every job - therefore having a base next to Aberdeen Harbour has been a real advantage to them. Neil is enthusiastic about the benefits it brings, noting that: “Although we are mobile, and regularly visit Montrose, Fraserburgh, Invergordon and harbours further afield - wherever our clients need us to be - the bulk of our activities are in Aberdeen and Peterhead, and we’ve had great feedback from the team as well as our clients on the added convenience of opening the office here at Provender House.”
And what works for the AMS customers, works for AMS. Neil explains: “It’s an exciting time for us. Organisations in the offshore oil and gas and marine sectors are facing a new market reality and need to improve efficiencies and reduce costs, and we realised that our focus on flexibility, quality and local operations is exactly what the market needs right now. By working together with our clients, we bring an approach that benefits us all. Our lean and flexible business model means our overheads are reduced, our availability is constant, and we can pass on these benefits to our clients while maintaining the quality of service they expect and deserve.”
